Job Description
Database administrators at ALK are responsible for deploying, monitoring, optimizing the databases underpinning our web applications. This specific position requires expertise managing SQL Server to build and maintain a fault-tolerant server infrastructure. Most importantly, we are looking for a hands-on engineer, who has desire to:
1) constantly learn more about SQL Server, 2) maintain and extend existing infrastructure and deployments, 3) take pride in overall product quality, and 4) work with others, including software engineers, and product managers to build the best products in the industry.
Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, or similar degree
Excellent debugging and problem solving skills
Expert level understanding of relational databases and their impact on application performance
Experience deploying and monitoring SQL Server 2012, 2014, or 2016
Experience using tools like SQL Server Management Studio and RedGate to manage database infrastructure and deployments
Expertise with SQL and a passion for optimizing schemas and queries for optimal performance
Knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, data warehousing strategies, and clustering
Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contentions
Desire to respond to production service outages on a 24x7 basis
Experience building and testing a disaster recovery environment
Understanding of microservice architectures and common networking concepts
Familiarity with applicati on development using languages such as C#
Desire to learn more about Amazon Web Services and how to optimize service and database performance in the cloud
Strong verbal and written communication skills
