Head, Study Design Innovation and Optimization (StuDIO)Position SummaryThis individual will lead the Study Design Innovation and Optimization (StuDIO) function within Global Biometrics and Data Sciences of BMS.
The individual will report to SVP, Global Biometrics and Data Sciences.
This individual is a subject matter expert in drug development with a strong quantitative background and understand operational, regulatory, and commercial implications and aspects of proposed clinical trial designs.
This role will directly supervise technical leaders and will partner with internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to support drug development.
This individual will be accountable for creating and implementing a structured program to guide development teams to ideate development and design options, assess trade-offs, align on design decisions, as well as provide a sounding board to development leaders.
The StuDIO Head is accountable for supporting study teams by providing resources and tools, and by identifying capabilities to address specific design questions while ensuring study teams are connected to capability owners who will provide hands-on support and training in leveraging tools and resources.
The StuDIO Head will create and operationalize a team comprised of StuDIO Leads and SMEs who will act as on-demand resources to provide study teams with recommendations for leveraging key capabilities and pressure-test study teams proposed designs via peer review approach.
This role provides expertise and guidance in collaboration with cross-functional groups broadly across the organization in supporting study teams with study design and strategy.
The StuDIO Head provides leadership, guidance, and management to StuDIO team members to ensure high quality and timely deliverables.
This role manages resources, sets priorities, and ensures consistency and adherence to standards therein.
Key ResponsibilitiesSets overall direction and provides leadership for Innovation and Optimization functionDrives strategy for process design and improvementSuccessfully apply innovative design elements multiple times to achieve tangible benefits in study/program objectives.
Drives strategy for capability design including identifying gaps and year on year improvementMaintains portfolio-wide understanding of key design questions and issuesDetermines approach for engagement with each study team, based on study objectivesLeads holistic design support workshopEffectively engages and manages cross-functional stakeholders to drive adoption of new capabilities, tools and designs to enable innovative clinical trial designs.
Strong communication skills, and sense of creativity, with ability to efficiently collaborate with study teams.
Participates in industry-wide technical discussionsEnsures consistency and adherence to BMS processes and standards across therapeutic areas and projects Effectively engages as an employee advocate and management coach/mentor to team members - both internally and externally Provides leadership to empower and develop the team Provides guidance to employees development plans and carries out performance review and feedback.
Develops performance metrics for staffQualifications & ExperienceMD, or PhD or MS (12
years experience) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Quantitative Science or in related scientific field with clinical trials, drug development, pharmaceutical industry or healthcare experienceExcellent interpersonal, communication, writing and organizational skillsExtensive understanding and experience in E2E Drug Development across multiple therapeutic areasDemonstrate expertise in applying knowledge of general and cutting-edge clinical trials methodology to solve complex problems in the clinical development area and ensure alignment with regulatory agencies and industry standardsVersed in emerging tools, resources, technology, and regulatory landscape to advance study design and protocol authoring.
